Why work at STYLIGHT

4

The other day I was to re-vamp our job ads for engineers. One part is to inform and appeal possible candidates about STYLIGHT. I wanted to provide arguments to “why work at STYLIGHT?”. Being a co-founder I might have different answers than my fellow STYLIGHTers. I believe  authentic reasons are the strongest, so I just went ahead and asked them (anonymously).  Here’s what they responded (I grouped them and fixed typos):

Work
- Hands-on work after quick ramp up
- Growth and resulting challenges to tackle
- Do what you love to do and get paid for it.
- Cutting edge technologies
- new technology
- chance to let your personality shine
- chance to do what you love
- your opinion is important and can move something (not like in a big corporation)

Learning
- Pro's to learn from
- Healthy Environment to work and grow with supportive team and founders that "have been there, done that"
- You are provided with moral and financial support to learn, go to conferences, do other things than your tasks
- Possibility for professional growth: conference budget, supporting local communities
- Openness to new solutions and improvements
- You'll learn all you ever wanted to learn.
- Open-minded team and flexible environment - you could bring new technologies to the desk
- Regular development being it conferences, workshops or co-worker presentations
- Room to develop oneself
- learn new things every day not only in your field of expertise
- events / training / conferences

Culture
- smart and data-driven founders
- It doesn't feel like you're going to work.
- Chance to meet your new best friends.
- Low Hierarchy
- salary
- Open business culture over all departments
- Big responsibility
- Affinity to solutions, not to work
- have fun at work
- Team Events
- Take over responsibility and grow with the company
- Lots of company events is good baseline for team building and better communications
- The rumour has it STYLIGHT is gonna make it big, and you wanna be on that boat.
- Party!!!
- work in intercultural/international team
- transparent company
- amazing coworkers
- flat hierarchy

Environment
- Fruits, Müsli, yogurt, and milk for Breakfast
- hardware / gadgets
- Inspiring environment with communicative co-workers
- Young and highly motivated environment
- best coffee in town
- most beautiful office in town
- Great office
- Bavaria has an insane number of vacation days and public holidays per year.
- Munich's landscape, architecture, nature, museums, and restaurants are all top notch. In terms of life quality, the city has been reported to be in the top 10.

That was quite a list – this would result in job ads 5 pages long. So we used one of our favorite tools from retros – dot voting. Every participant gets a certain numbers of dots. Those are distributed to the topics voters favorite. With us this looked then like this:

Dot Voting

Let’s decide what shall make it to the job ad

And this was the outcome with the dot count in brackets:

  • You are provided with moral and financial support to learn, go to conferences, do other things than your tasks (11)
  • Munich’s landscape, architecture, nature, museums, and restaurants are all top notch. In terms of life quality, the city has been reported to be in the top 10. (7)
  • Young and highly motivated environment (7)
  • Hands-on work after quick ramp up (5)
  • Openness to new solutions and improvements (5)
  • Open business culture over all departments (3)
  • Flat hierarchy (3)
  • Fruits, Müsli, yogurt, and milk for Breakfast (3)

et voila, this is what you now find beneath our  job posts. I’ll update this post as we get feedback if this is helpful or not to candidates.
